Wix is the platform on which I have created my blog. Wix is not only for blogs, being a potential template for any website. When I chose Wix for my blog I was uneducated on the different platforms and features each of those platforms gave. Today I am going to give a short review of the Wix blog maker. The first thing I must mention is that recently Wix has come out with a new blog template, supplanting the old one I am on. One thing that annoys me about this is that at the time of this writing you can not transfer an old blog to the new blog form. This makes any new features for Wix blog irrelevant to me and anyone else with the original blog maker. I think Wix needs to implement a way to transfer an old blog to the new format because it feels like they are leaving behind a large part of their current population.

The things that I like about Wix Blog:

  • A separate blog tab where you can write your blogs and keep all of your drafts saved that is easily accessible to the creator of the blog.

  • Easy editing of the landscape of the page.

  • Easy ability to create new pages.

  • The free inclusion of a tracker which shows how many visits your posts get and other information.

  • Free apps you can add like a subscribe button.

  • Very easy to create a blog with limited computer skills, no programming knowledge needed at all.

The things that I dislike about Wix Blog:

  • The random freezings that occur in the blog editor, and the fact that the autosave does not work one hundred percent of the time.

  • The lack of ability to footnote is incredibly annoying when using sources for pieces.

  • The weird spell check that works differently than the ones used in google docs or any other word editor out there. This spell check can often think real words are fake and gives very limited options when a word is misspelled, often being the wrong option.

  • Limited ability to edit the page other than through what Wix' Apps offers.

Wix was a great choice when I first began this blog giving me an easy to use platform. It was an amazing source for my early development of the blog, and allowed me to create a website that I was proud of. For my severe lack of computer skills being able to create a website so easily, with easy to use blog functions was more then I could have ever hoped for. Being able to see how my posts were doing through visits was another wonderful piece that Wix brought. With this ease of use though comes a lack of complexity that has become more pronounced as time has passed. Somethings like footnotes are nonexistent on the blog editor and have been severely lacked on certain posts like the history posts. While the freezing and weird spell check of the blog editor are also annoying, they are bearable and would not cause me to switch.

The major killer that Wix brings is its simplicity. While the simplicity was incredibly helpful in early website development as I have learned more about web development Wix has bottlenecked my ability to change things to how I would like them. The apps on Wix pretty much limit your ability to add things to your website, and while there is a vast amount of them, many are only able to be used on the premium service for money.

I am overall happy with Wix, but I do not know if I would use it now that I know how to do more web development. Wix is a great beginingers website creator, but it you are more knowledgeable you can look to other ways and be happy about it.
