The Great Worlds Outside Our Own

I love creative universes that have many different interlocking parts. Worlds like Star Wars in which the lore exceeds the original source material. Creations which have had many different eyes look at them, and stories beyond stories created about them. Any epic like novel, which has its own in-depth history, is something that I love. I feel fully immersed in the world when there is more than just a single character or group driven plot. Why I think I enjoy these worlds so much is because they almost garner their events and characters from the human psyche.

These worlds play on big themes about what is to be human. While they can have fantasy elements, like Game of Thrones or Lord of the Rings, or be set in a futuristic environment, like Star Wars, each of the characters represents humanistic ideals. By having such a large expanse of works, that deviate from a single story and plot, the world can delve into so much more. My favorite world driven works are those that seem realistic in personality. They can have futuristic elements or fantasized ones, but the personality and themes of the world and each part of it must seem like something that is not alien to our own world. I have also ways been intrigued by my own ability to create something like this. I enjoy imagining and reading about all the tremendous expanses of works, but do I have the capability to create my own? Sometimes I feel discouraged because as I am thinking about all these creations I love I feel as though I just want to copy them. They are so entertaining to me, and I could never come up with such a detailed environment. The mere volume of the works discourages me, causing me to consider my own ability to write that much. The scariest bit might be the actual story itself. While these works cover a huge scope of ideas, they still have a plot, with a number of characters who interact with these great worlds. A lot of the time I feel as though I would enjoy the world more than the story. At this time I do not think I am ready to create an atmosphere of works this large. I do not feel like have enough drive, nor ability yet. That does not mean it won't be my dream though. I want to create something that integrates all of humanities ideals, contrasting them in a world set apart from ours. I will get there.
