My favorite classes of freshman year!
7. Architectural Design with Mr. Schultz
Coming in at number seven we have architectural design. Architectural design used a few different programs to model buildings. One of the main surprises of this course was the extremely limited use of any nonelectric things. While we did use graph paper to make some sketches almost everything was done on a couple different programs; ArchiCAD and SketchUp. I personally preferred ArchiCAD finding it much easier to use. We started the year with SketchUp and made a model home. My main complaint with this is that SketchUp was much harder to use then ArchiCAD and we spent half of the semester making one home on it, while we made multiple structures in the second half of the semester on ArchiCAD. This class was interesting in the uniqueness of it, but I feel like to really enjoy this course you have to be enamored with the process of designing homes and structures.
6. Geometry with Mr. Louis
Taking sixth place is geometry. This class was alright, but personally, I did feel bored with it. There was definitely some interesting topics but it also was confusing because our class did things out of order compared to other geometry classes. This was hard because when working with people from different periods who had other teachers, it was hard to help each other out. Some things I did enjoy about this class were that we went outside a couple times. While outside we still did geometry but we incorporated it into the real world, and it was wonderful being in the sun.
5. Flash Web Animation with Mr. Kimura
Now at number five, we have flash web animation. This course was a blast. I really enjoyed Mr. Kimura's laid-back attitude and how we were able to have a certain amount of independence in what we made. With this though sometimes it was hard to get help because everyone was doing slightly different things. The subject was very cool, and I loved making even the simplest animations. The class was definitely not taxing or hard, but it was a great thing to have in the middle of long days.
4. E9 with Mrs. Goldstone
We are now at number four with E9. I enjoyed some of the material more than others, very much enjoying lord of the flies. I feel like if I had more friends in this class I could have better utilized it as I was quite quiet in it. There was a definite amount of discussion but even with the more boring topics I was always engaged and listening. That's something that I know is not for granted now being a junior. Another great part of this class was the movies which are pretty self-explanatory in that they were fun. To top it all off Mrs. Goldstone was a wonderful teacher who still says hi to me in that halls even though I never felt like we had the deepest of connections of all her students.
3. German One with Frau Fetterhoff
We have hit Deutschland at number three. To be frank I only took German because my brother told me too. It is definitely not that taxing of a class, but it's not a blow over either. The class was very interactive doing many activities instead of just sitting and listening. That part is probably my favorite part of the class, just how much we did in ways that were not just sitting there. We would all sit on tables and say sentences to go down, would have parties, do festivals, would be taught by the higher up German classes. All of this really made German quite a pleasant experience.
2. Modern European History
Here we go, coming in at number two is Modern European History. I must say history is one of my favorite subjects, and this class while not my favorite history class, time period, or area still intrigued me. I loved whenever we did projects they were always really fun. We did a fair amount of projects, but I will say the majority of this class was note taking. The note taking was very laid out for the student with many packets to help with it. The class covered a fairly long time period, from the end of the Renaissance to modern day. I will say that the main thing for why I liked this class was that history, in all topics, tends to intrigue and keep my attention.
1. Earth Science with Mrs. Richardson
And now at number one, far and away my favorite freshman year class earth science. This class vyes for the top of my all-time favorite classes. I loved so much about it from the people in it, to the way it was structured, to what we did, to that feeling I got each time I came in. This class was the essence of teamwork. Everyone worked together to make study guides, to do labs, no one was alone. It was also one of the most rewarding classes I have ever taken because it was very challenging but you could do well. Bringing all these things together to make it such a beloved class of mine was how fun the subject was. We did so many labs and did a huge real-life research project at the end of the year. All of this physical application that we did made the class the highlight of my day.
